Shikkui Polished Plasters

Shikkui Plaster is a traditional Japanese lime plaster whose usage spans over 1000years. It has been widely used throughout Japan for both internal and external walls of houses, temples and castles. Shikkui is made of slaked lime, seaweed extracts, natural plant fiber and other aggregates. We use a range of plasters imported direct from Japan's oldest and largest manufacturer.  Through various methods of application a myriad of finishes can be produced. Depending on the substrate, a base coat may be needed—both the Interior Base and the Cement Base are made of a combination of benign calcium compounds and vinyl acetate, along with portland cement for the cement base. The Shikkui produced by Tagaa Sangyo has many beneficial properties beyond its beauty, it is a sustainable plaster with silver certification from Cradle 2 Cradle. Miles is a certified Japanese Shikkui surface coating applicator, and works with skilled craftsmen directly connected to Tagawa Sangyo in Japan. The work featured has been commissioned by Sisi Design, Amanda Gallagher Interior Design, LCT Interior Solutons, Lewis Alderson Furniture, Olivia May Clothing, Emma Sims Hilditch Interior Design and Horton & Co.
